Course Topics:

This seminar gives an overview of German history, government and legislative system, political parties, economic policies and the education system. Furthermore, students will learn about German eating habits, regional food specialties, holidays and festivals such as the German national holidays in different periods of the 20th century and their history, Christmas and Easter traditions as well as cultural touchstones, such as the Munich Beer Festival. The course will be taught in English, but also utilize materials in simple German, short movies and other material to give students a varied and vivid picture of the German society and culture.
