As a prestigious accomplishment, this honor is conferred by the ASME Committee of Past Presidents on worthy candidates to recognize their outstanding engineering achievements. Nominated by ASME members and existing fellows, an ASME member must have demonstrated 10 or more years of active practice and at least 10 years of active corporate membership in ASME to earn this honor. The ASME fellow grade recognizes “exceptional engineering achievements and contributions to the engineering profession.” The fellow title has been awarded to only 3,384 out of 70,539 ASME members.

Professor Ju has been an ASME member for 17 years. Since 2011, he has served as a technical committee member of ASME in Composite Materials (Applied Mechanics Division) and Composite and Heterogeneous Materials (Materials Division). He organized symposiums at the ASME IMECE on Mechanical Metamaterials (2017-present) and Mechanics and Design of Cellular Materials (2013-2016), providing a platform for disseminating novel research findings in mechanical metamaterials. Professor Ju also led students to establish an ASME Student Section at JI in 2023 and has since served as the faculty advisor.
