The University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter) made a glamorous appearance at the opening ceremony of the 50th SJTU Sports Games, led by its mascot, the Blue Tiger. On May 18, the annual sports meet commenced at the Hu Fa-kuang Stadium on the SJTU Minhang campus, featuring over 60 teams from various departments and institutes.
During the entrance ceremony, the JI parade stood out with its vitality and creativity. The highlight of their display was a giant Blue Tiger balloon soaring above the 36-member walking team of faculty, staff and students. The delegation, holding placards adorned with cartoon images of the JI mascot and chanting the slogan “Go Global! Go Fighting!”, captured the attention of the entire audience.
According to the event organizers, this year’s sports meet emphasized a blend of competitiveness, mass participation, and fun. With a variety of engaging sports events and activities, the meet aimed to enhance the physical health of faculty and students while promoting scientific exercise habits. The initiative sought to establish sports and health as a new trend on campus, perpetuating a culture of “Love SJTU, Love Sports.”
Throughout the two-day event, JI is set to participate in numerous individual and team competitions for both faculty and students. These include a faculty group exercise demonstration and a campus walking event, among other special activities and contests.
