A delegation from King’s College London visited the University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter) on August 30 to discuss future collaboration opportunities. Members of the delegation included Michael Malim, Senior Vice Dean for Academic Strategy and Partnership; Luca Vigano, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical, and Engineering Sciences; Kerry Brown, Director of the Lau China Institute at the Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy; Tania Lima, Director of Global Engagement; and Edward Danks, Partnership Manager for China, East Asia, and Southeast Asia. The visiting delegation was received by JI Associate Dean for Graduate Education Yongxing Shen, Graduate Education Office Manager Kate and a team of relevant faculty and staff members.

During the meeting, Shen provided an overview of the joint institute, highlighting its guiding principles, educational objectives, faculty expertise, student demographics, research capabilities, and existing collaborative programs. Both sides explored potential opportunities for future cooperation and exchanged ideas on joint degree programs and other areas of mutual interest.

This visit is expected to further deepen the collaboration between the two institutions, providing broader international perspectives and exchange opportunities for both students and faculty.
