Three postdoctoral researchers from the University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter) have been selected for the 2024 Shanghai Super Postdoctoral Incentive Program. The funding initiative, part of the city’s effort to support exceptional talent, aims to foster cutting-edge research and innovation.
The JI recipients of the funding include:
Yejian Lv,a postdoctoral researcher supervised by Associate Professor Chong Han. Lv received his Ph.D. from Aalborg University, Denmark, in 2024. He has published over ten papers as the first author in high-level journals and conferences, and was awarded the 2023 EU STSM Scholarship, among other honors.
Mingxiang Li, also under the mentorship of Associate Professor Chong Han, earned his Ph.D. from the University of Adelaide, Australia, in 2024, under the guidance of Professor Withawat Withayachumnankul and Professor Christophe Fumeaux. Li has published more than ten papers as the first author in top international journals and conferences. His accolades include the 2023 IEEE AP-S Fellowship and the 2023 IEEE Comsoc Student Competition Nomination Award.
Jian Jiang, supervised by Assistant Professor Yutong Ban, has published five papers as the first author in top journals such as IEEE Transactions on Affective Computing. Jiang has also received a national invention patent and funding from the NVIDIA Academic Hardware Program. His achievements in robotics include second place in the FIRA RoboWorld Cup Simulation Soccer Competition and the international championship in Autonomous Navigation at the International Humanoid Robot Olympics.
