The 2016 Open Day of the University of Michigan- Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI) was held on August 10 on the same occasion of the Summer Design Expo, attracting more than 500 high school students and their parents from all over China.
Dean Peisen Huang welcomed the students and parents warmly. He pointed out that JI is committed to creating an open and innovative learning environment where a high-quality faculty team and a rich international curriculum nurture well-rounded students. The biannual Design Expo provides a platform for JI undergraduate students to showcase their abilities of solving practical problems through group collaboration and communication. He hoped the Open Day would help prospective students and parents get a better understanding of JI.

Professor Chengbin Ma and Professor Roberto Dugnani introduced the highlights of Design Expo, which exhibited more than 80 projects of JI’s various experimental courses from the first-year “Introduction to Engineering” to senior-year “Design and Manufacturing III” and ”System Design and Implementation.” They depicted a comprehensive picture of JI undergraduate students’ accomplishments in research and innovative practice.

After the meeting, many parents of high school students surrounded the JI admissions officers. Director Yang Wang answered their questions patiently.
