Brief Bio of Professor David L.S. Hung:
Professor David L.S. Hung serves as the Associate Dean for Graduate Education at JI. After earning his doctoral degree in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, USA, in 1998, he had been working at General Motors, Delphi and Visteon and was an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Michigan State University, conducting research on advanced powertrain systems, gasoline direct injection engine and optical diagnostics. His research projects were funded by the US Department of Energy and other agencies. Professor Hung joined JI in June 2010 with a dual appointment as a professor of the Institute of Automotive Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering at SJTU. He has published more than 120 papers in archival journals and conference proceedings, including Nature Physics, International Journal of Engine Research, IEEE Transactions of Mechatronics, Fuel, SAE and ASME Transactions. He has been granted 10 US patents. He has received numerous funding from Chinese agencies, including China MOE’s New Century Talent Award, NSFC grants, SJTU Interdisciplinary Research Grant.
Based on his outstanding contributions in fuel injection sprays measurement and his leading role in the development and formulation of the first international standard practice for gasoline fuel injection spray measurements (SAE J2175), Professor Hung was elected as a Fellow of SAE International (Society of Automotive Engineers) in October 2013. In March 2015 he was named a Distinguished Visiting Fellow by the United Kingdom’s Royal Academy of Engineering. He was also named the SJTU’s “Koguan Top Ten Professor” in December 2015.
