In honor of Mr. Cheng’s father and engineering professor, Dr. David K. Cheng, this endowed fund will support both students from SJTU attending UM and students from UM attending SJTU. Mr. Cheng, a UM alumnus graduated in 1971, is the President and Chief Investment Officer of Triad Global Asset Management, located in the greater Los Angeles area. Dr David K. Cheng graduated from Jiao Tong University in 1938 before heading for Harvard University to pursue his doctoral degree.
The UM-SJTU offers specialized degree programs in China in an English-language format, where students can apply to transfer to the UM College of Engineering. Conversely, UM students can study engineering and liberal arts courses in China led by SJTU faculty.
