The two sides discussed the progress of the Michigan Ross Master of Management – Shanghai Cohort Program and the Automotive Executive Development Program (EDP). They also explored the possibility of further cooperation with domestic enterprises.

After the meeting, Scott DeRue gave a talk on “leadership and opportunity,” pointing out the eight rules to improve management in Google’s Project Oxygen:

  1. Be a good coach
  2. Empower your team and don’t micromanage
  3. Express interest in team members’ success and personal well-being
  4. Don’t be a sissy: Be productive and results-oriented
  5. Be a good communicator and listen to your team
  6. Help your employees with career development
  7. Have a clear vision and strategy for the team
  8. Have key technical skills so you can help advise the team.

He stressed that everyone can become a good leader, boost the team’s development, and contribute to social progress.

In the subsequent Q & A session, Scott DeRue answered students’ questions about the program features, degree requirements, scholarships and other topics most concerned by the students. So far, two classes of the Michigan Ross Master of Management – Shanghai Cohort Program have graduated, and the graduates have successfully landed jobs in the consulting, finance and manufacturing sectors.
