JI Students Shine in 2012 IEEE International Microwave Symposium

In the 2012 IEEE International Microwave Symposium that recently took place in Montreal, Canada, JI’s graduate student Jiapin Guo, supervised by Assistant Professor Xinen Zhu, presented a paper titled “An improved analytical model for RF-DC conversion efficiency in microwave rectifiers” and received good review for his work.

Guo and two JI senior students, Haocheng Hong and Xu Shi, also participated in a student design competition on “Wireless Energy Harvesting” organized by the conference and won the 3rd place, out of 19 teams from around the world.
Guo’s team has worked on the project for a couple of months, which is a continuation of the two seniors’ capstone design project last fall that won the silver award.
IEEE IMS is the biggest and most prestigious conference in the field of RF （radio frequency） and microwave theory and technique. The student design competition is sponsored by the Microwave Theory and Techniques Society’s Technical Coordination Committees as well as various industry partners. The objective is to encourage students to become involved in the dynamic profession of microwave engineering, to apply their knowledge to practical design use, and to promote team work. The best designs, as judged by the technical committee sponsors, are recognized at the Student Awards Luncheon at IMS2012.
Prof. Zhu, being proud of his students’ accomplishments, remarked, “I think their achievements are due to our successful teaching and training at JI plus their hard work.”
