The Joint- Institute Summer Program kicked off on May 14, 2012. Thirty-four students from University of Michigan arrived at SJTU over the weekend and participated in the orientation sponsored by JI’s International Program Office on Sunday, May 13.
After a nourishing breakfast and a game of “Bingo” to break the ice, the students were briefed by Viva Du, the International Program Coordinator, about Shanghai, SJTU, and JI. They were instructed on the ins and outs of living in the SJTU campus and traveling in Shanghai, including safety, emergency handling, and also how to detect a counterfeit RMB bill. Then, the students took a tour of the campus.
This is the first welcome activity for the UM students. There will be more social events interspersed throughout the summer program to enrich their JI experience.
