Introduction to the finite element method through the principle of minimum potential energy. Structural and continuum elements. Applications to static analysis, dynamics and vibrations, contact, material nonlinearity, and heat conduction. Extensive MATLAB programming AND use of a commercial finite element software package through in-class demo, computer labs and graded assignments.
