The course aims to introduce students to the power of theatre, and to help them understand the processes of making a production. Five to seven plays will be subjects of special study, chosen to cover a wide range of style and content, but interest will not be confined to these.

Course Topics:

1.An understanding of the history and origins of theater
2.Understanding the cultural elements of comedy
3.Seeing how comedy has changed and developed over time as both an idea and a practice
4.Seeing how the elements of theater come together to form a production
5.Writing and producing a sketch comedy piece
