Description:
This course is designed for first year undergraduates. As an entry level course, it will provide fundamental skillsets in data analytics. It combines three perspectives: inferential thinking, computational thinking, and real-world relevance. Given data arising from some real-world phenomenon, how does one analyze that data to understand that phenomenon? The course teaches critical concepts and skills in computer programming and statistical inference, in conjunction with hands-on analysis of real-world datasets.
Course Topics:
Causality and experiments, data types, sequences, tables, functions, randomness, sampling and empirical distribution, testing hypotheses, comparing two samples, A/B testing, estimation, prediction, regression and classification.
