“It is amazing how much the students can achieve in 2 months’time. Their prototypes are very close to our target and will be put into production. Our cooperation with the Joint Institute has been very successful and we look forward to more collaboration in the future.”
At conclusion of the meeting, Dean Huang emphasized that JI advocates Open Door Policy and the town hall meeting is a channel for students to knock at the door, give suggestion, and help JI improve.
Chairman Jiang was gratified to see that the Joint Institute continues to make progress under the leadership of Dean Huang. He hoped the collaboration between the two universities in internationalization, research, and disciplines will progress to a new phase of UM-SJTU JI 2.0 in the next 8 to 10 years.
This tournament is one of the most difficult tournaments of the season, and includes some of the top schools across China and features students from cities all across the nation. This overwhelming regional diversity reflects the very best of the NHSDLC.

JI Ph.D. Student Hanyang Zhuang Received Outstanding Paper Award in 2014 ASME Fluids Engineering Division (ASME FED) Conference in Chicago.
Three-minute Thesis Competition was held in the Minhang campus on September.Jing Long, a JI Ph.D. student from Prof. Tian Yang’s Nanophotonics Laboratory, won the second prize by her excellent presentation of “Detecting a single molecule within a gold nanoparticle-plane junction.”
The main theme of the welcome party is that every JI graduate student is a member of the JI family.

The Appointment Ceremony for JI’s new dean was held at JI on September 19th.
To inform new students of JI’s education system, a Series of First Lessons was given at the JI Auditorium on September 15-16.
2014 JI New Student Convocation was held on September 14. The entire ceremony was conducted in English, showing JI’s international characteristics.
