Doctoral students Xinyue Wu and Ruge Xu from the University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter) have secured second place finish in the finals of the China Computer Federation (CCF) Chip Conference’s special competition. JI faculty member receives MediaTek excellent research award
The University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter) faculty member Aimin Tang has become a recipient of the inaugural MediaTek Advanced Research Center (MARC) Excellent Research Award. Tang received an Honorable Mention prize for for his project titled Key Technologies for Integrated Sensing and Communications, according to a recent announcement of MediaTek Inc., a leading global semiconductor enterprise. More than 60 projects from worldwide research institutes participated in the competition.

Top science journal features mechanical transistors developed by JI team
A research team from the University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter) has published an article titled “Thermal Computing with Mechanical Transistors” in Advanced Functional Materials, a top-tier materials science journal with a Nature Index Impact Factor of 19. Featured on the inside cover of the journal, the article highlighted mechanical transistors developed by the research team and demonstrated thermal computing to supplement traditional electronic computing.
JI student wins first prize at SJTU speech competition
Haojia Sun, a Class of 2024 undergraduate student from the University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter), has won the first prize at the 2024 SJTU Undergraduate Graduation Speech Contest. The final competition themed “Youth Aspires, Strong Nation with Me” was held on June 17 with 15 contestants from across the university.
