讲座摘要

Many believe that recent techniques in computer graphics and artificial intelligence are advanced enough to represent content creators. However, these techniques do not necessarily incorporate artists’ and designers’ workflow, which involves progressively expressing creative intention and utilizing spatial context. In fact, content creators still often have great difficulty learning and using digital tools, especially for ideation and prototyping. An intuitive content creation experience requires digital tools that leverage the value of users’ creative process and spatial context.

In this talk, I will introduce a framework for amplifying the creative process in sketching and augmented reality. I will first present spatiotemporal drawing analyses and reveal the significant gap between how humans and computers draw. I will then demonstrate algorithms and systems that leverage users’ creative process and spatial context to enable intuitive and user-centric prototyping in animation, AR design, and cultural heritage. Rather than replacing content creators, I will discuss why computer science research should investigate their creative intelligence to pursue the synergy between computing and the arts.

主讲人简介

Zeyu Wang is a final-year PhD candidate at Yale University, advised by Julie Dorsey and Holly Rushmeier. His research lies at the intersection of computer graphics and human-computer interaction. His research goal is to make content creation and consumption more accessible and intuitive through an interdisciplinary effort into creative intelligence. His work has been recognized by an Adobe Research Fellowship, a Franke Interdisciplinary Research Fellowship, and a Best Paper Award. He received a BS (summa cum laude) in machine intelligence from Peking University in 2016 and has been a research intern at Adobe, Google, and Microsoft.
