About the symposium
The International Frontiers in Innovative Technology (FIT) Young Investigators Symposium hosted by the University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (JI) will be held on Sept 10-11, 2019 in Shanghai, China. The FIT symposium provides a social platform for young scholars around the world to exchange ideas on their latest research, to interact and collaborate, and to find inspirations in the rapid-evolving technological fields. Seminars at FIT focus on interdisciplinary engineering research and emerging areas in mechanical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, material science and engineering. Outstanding young international scholar participants of FIT symposium are encouraged to visit JI labs and pursue collaborations with JI faculty members.
About JI
The University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (JI) was jointly established in 2006 by two premier universities, the University of Michigan and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, creating a Sino-US academic partnership with tremendous potential. The mission of JI is to build a world-class educational and research institute in China and foster future innovative researchers and leaders with a global perspective.
Guided by the philosophy of “Internationalization, Interdisciplinary, Innovation, and Quality”, JI has developed a unique educational model through combining American and Chinese educational philosophies and principles. JI has won many awards for higher education innovation, including the “Model of Chinese Higher Education Reform” from the Chinese State Council and the “Andrew Heiskell Award for Innovation in Higher Education” from the Institute of International Education, one of the most prestigious awards in international education.
JI receives strong support from both partner universities and the Chinese government. JI models itself after the world class U.S. research universities, in terms of its tenure review and promotion system, academic environment, research program, and undergraduate curriculum. Its official language is English.
