Abstract
Presently, multimedia, especially video content, has become a prominent part of our lives. Thanks to the enormous power of computing networks, multimedia applications have benefited numerous sectors, including social media, gaming, business, entertainment, etc.Multimedia processing and distribution systems are the foundations for the success of these applications. In this talk, I will first present an end-to-end overview of the existing multimedia systems. I will then demonstrate the evolution of multimedia applications to date and their challenges on different components of multimediasystems. Major solutions for these components, e.g., caching, transcoding, delivery, are presentedaccordingly. Following this evolutional view, several emerging multimedia applications, e.g., immersive reality, video analytics are then discussed followed by the promising networking and system technical preparations for them.
