Abstract

A numerical framework has been established to investigate the combustion of AP/HTPB composite propellant at the mesoscopic scale. It is composed of several independent modules: solid conduction, interface tracking and gaseous combustion. These modules are coupled together by physically derived connecting conditions at the gas-solid interface. The immersed-boundary method is used to handle possible information exchange. In particular, a novel numerical scheme has been proposed to handle thermal connecting conditions. Simulation of gaseous combustion is based on the projection method designed for weakly compressible flow. Comprehensive tests on Miller packs justify the integrated solver.
