Abstract
Active materials and smart structures are shaping the future of engineering designs. This seminar will cover the fundamental concepts of novel engineering materials and their applications for establishing the intelligent structural systems. Three various kinds of active materials will be presented: the piezoelectric material, the shape memory alloy, and the liquid metal. This talk will address their special features, functional capabilities, and novel advancements with recent progress in both academic research and engineering practice.
Biography
Dr. Yanfeng Shen is currently a tenure-track Associate Professor at the University of Michigan–Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute.
