Biography
Professor Yuan has been with North Carolina State University since 1989. He is a full professor at Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, NC State. Currently, he serves as a Langley Professor at National Institute of Aerospace. His recent research includes structural health monitoring/management (SHM), nondestructive inspection (NDI), machine learning, multi-functional materials, nano/meso scale sensors, advanced computing tools with smart sensors, damage prognosis, and energy harvesting. Professor Yuan is an Associate Editor for AIAA Journal, Journal of Structural Health Monitoring, and ASCE Journal of Energy Engineering, etc. Professor Yuan is a Fellow of International Society for Optics and Photonics and a Fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He is the recipient of the SHM Person of the Year Award in 2013. Professor Yuan has also received the Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Lifetime Achievement Award from Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE) in 2023.
