JI Professor Gang Zheng wins first prize of SJTU teaching award

Professor Gang Zheng, associate dean for undergraduate education of the University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter), has been awarded the First Prize of the SJTU Teaching and Educating Award in 2024, a highest honor given by the university recognizing outstanding contributions in student education and development.

Simin Wang, a 2006 alumnus of the University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter), and his team at Zhuomo Zhuomo, played a pivotal role as the design and curatorial team for “China House” in Paris. Through their work, they brought Chinese traditional culture to a global audience, adding cultural significance to the Olympics experience.

Sofia Lai Velasquez Shum’s story is one of curiosity, passion, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge. Born in Costa Rica in 2003, Sofia has always had a natural inclination towards learning and exploring new horizons. Now a junior in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter), Sofia is living a dream she has nurtured since childhood.

Doctoral students Xinyue Wu and Ruge Xu from the University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter) have secured second place finish in the finals of the China Computer Federation (CCF) Chip Conference’s special competition. The competition, known as the “CCF-DAC: ASIC DRC Violation Prediction Model Design and AI-PC Deployment Challenge,” is a highly respected event within the field of integrated circuit design.
