On October 12, 2012，the plaque unveiling ceremony for the GE-SJTU Collaborative Research Laboratory was held at GE China Technology Center in the Pudong New District.

The results of 2012 National College Mathematical Contest in Modeling, Shanghai Division, were announced recently. The JI team consisting of Zhou Xintao, a junior, Luo Jiaxi, and Zhu Ruihao, both sophomores, won the first prize.

This fall semester marks the third year of the JI graduate school. For the first time, a welcome party organized by the Graduate Student Union was held in Guangbiao Building on September 28.

On September 24, 2012, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and GE China Technology Center signed a research collaboration agreement to establish the Collaborative Advanced Manufacturing Lab at the University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (JI).

On August 13 to 15, eleven JI students (three graduates and 8 undergraduates), led by Professor Huan Qi and Career Counselor Candice Liu, visited several important companies in Beijing.

The fourth TA orientation conference of the JI Center for Learning and Teaching (CLT-JI) was held on September 15, 2012, which aims to provide intensive training for the 51 teaching assistants who are working in the fall semester.

The first town hall meeting between the JI leaders and the graduate students took place on September 13. Dean Ni, Peisen Huang, Olivier Bauchau and staff of the graduate school answered questions and exchanged ideas with the students on the topics of study goals, curriculum, theses, research, and international cooperation.
