The second annual SJTU’s “e Contact-the- League Cup” Smart Car Competition took place in the Guanbiao Building on April 18, 2012. There were six teams from JI, among which three won second prize and are qualified to go on to the next round of competition.
SJTU’s “e Contact-the-League Cup” is open to all SJTU students. It promotes creativity and hands-on capability. The final winners will represent SJTU and participate in the 2012 National Smart Car Contest, which is sponsored by the Ministry of Education and open to all university students in China. The national contest aims to stimulate students’ interest and potential in scientific research. It encourages innovation, team work, and practicing what has been learned in engineering courses. SJTU has participated in the national contest for six years in a row and has won many prizes.
The Smart Car Competition requires the contestants to have solid foundations in electronic circuits and signal analysis as well as strong hands-on capability. Participants have to use a specific car kit and micro-controller. Based on the same platform, the contestants build a smart car that can recognize the driving route by any of the three modes: electromagnetic, optoelectronic, or photographic. Electromagnetic group even needs to balance the wheels automatically.
