The JI 2012 Class Officer election meeting was held on July 6, attended by 12 class representatives and officiated by Scott Yang, Academic Affairs Manager, Wu Qi, Students Affairs Manager, and Candice Liu,Career Counselor.

Candice Liu presented the result of her 3-month effort to track down the JI alumni, which turned out to be more difficult than expected. She says that although the alumni have only graduated for 2 years, a majority of the alumni’s information is already obsolete. The challenges include the alumni being too busy with work or study to answer emails and the lack of a platform to update their profiles and contact information.

The student representatives responded with ideas of improvement. They suggested various ways to ensure the accuracy of the alumni’s information. They want to ensure that their class will not encounter the same problem.

The student representatives then elected two Class Officers for 2012 Alumni, namely, Wang Chong as the Chair of the China Chapter and Liu Zongchang as the Chair of the Overseas Chapter. Wang Chong plans to take advantage of existing resources to network with the alumni of SJTU and JI all over China. Liu Zongchang will use his experience as the chair of the UM-SJTU Alumni Association to build a strong JI Alumni Association abroad.

As the Class Officers were elected, they will focus on making bylaws of Alumni Association and launching the preparation for the upcoming JI Alumni Day in August.

Scott Yang gave a closing address of encouragement. He emphasized the important role the JI Alumni plays in the Joint Institute’s future development. He has high expectation of the students because the 2012 class has made great accomplishments in their four years at JI, such as founding JI Science Club, participating in Yunnan Education Volunteers and Joint Departure, and organizing various student activities. He wished them a great success.
