JI’s lecturer Dr. Gang Zheng was elected as one of the ten most popular teachers of SJTU in 2012. Each school of the SJTU had nominated one teacher and submitted for university-wide voting. The 10 nominees who got the highest votes were awarded as the most popular teachers of SJTU.
Dr. Gang Zheng remarked, “What I have gained from my 11 years of teaching is not only experience, but also, more importantly, the satisfaction which sustains my life. The satisfaction comes from the joy the students get from solving a problem using the knowledge they have learned, from being proud of the graduates’ impressive achievements, from a graduate’s thank-you email for benefiting from one of my classes, even from a student ‘s brief greeting.
“Teaching is a noble profession with high spiritual reward. It comes with great social responsibility. I always believe in teaching characters before imparting knowledge. Teaching characters start with myself being a role model, which is the greatest challenge for all teachers. I like the challenge and I love to be a teacher, which will be my life-time career.”
Message to the students:
Cherish your college days. Besides learning, try to cultivate broad interests, participate in community services, make good friends, and have fun.
