Featuring Chinese festival culture and a technology-enhanced visual spectacle, a stunning ceremony took the world’s breath away on the night of February 4 as President Xi Jinping declared the opening of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. The opening ceremony received widespread attention from international students of the University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM–SJTU JI, JI hereafter), who are spending their winter holiday in different countries.
Here are some comments of JI international students:
The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games opening ceremony brought forth hope and faith to the world amidst the hardships of the coronavirus pandemic. Paving the way for the upcoming tiger year, the 2022 Olympics acts as the beacon for the world to rejoice and commemorate how we have gone so far as an international community. I believe it is time, once again, for the world to see how China has progressed since the 2008 Olympics. I await eagerly for the games to start and wish all the best to everyone!

The opening ceremony is such a magnificent display of Chinese culture and technology. it’s not only a ceremony but a huge and merry party of the world. I see such a wonder that China is able to overcome all the difficulties and organize everything thoroughly, in spite of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

I could tell that Beijing Winter Olympics was prepared very well from the opening ceremony. Graphics was wonderful, stadium and music all formed a great theme. As Greece team started to enter the stadium, I was happy to realize that the Beijing Winter Olympics is finally starting, which I was really looking forward to watching!
