With great anticipation the annual Joint Institute new graduate students welcome party was held on the 28th of September. At dusk the masses of students started gathering in the Boya Ballroom at Guangbiao Hall. When the arms of the clock hit 18:30, the party kicked off in full force.
This year, the number of new international students reaches record high, with 14 from Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, and Netherlands, which was reflected by the rich variety show. The exotic international program, in combination with performances of the local “all stars,” lifted the evening to an entirely new level. The variety of shows included tender love songs, dazzling Persian dance, the funniest of games that made even the gloomiest chuckle, and a nursery song medley for which the audience produced more decibels than the performers themselves.

The main theme of the welcome party is that every JI graduate student is a member of the JI family. Up until now every student had walked his or her own path; however, no matter where all of our journeys had started, we all made one crucial decision to be intertwined on our paths. The whole evening was filled with an infinite amount of energy and synergy, but this one message shined through: We are a big JI family.
