On a sunny afternoon in mid-April, six energetic JI student volunteers visited the “Sunshine House” for the mentally challenged in Shanghai, bringing laughter and warmth to the residents.
After a little warmup to break the ice, the volunteers sat down with the residents to chat and do origami. In no time, the table was covered with colorful origami of various shapes. Jianchi, a JI junior, challenged all and recreated the Baymax of the Disney movie “Big Hero 6”
Then activities were shifted to the sunny outdoors. Under the warm sunshine, everyone had great fun competing in the three-legged race. Two agile buddies of the house won consecutively based on their long-time rapport, which resulted in a challenging five-people-six-legged race with JI team against the Sunshine House.
Three hours flew by while everyone was having a good time. The residents sent off the volunteers, bidding them safe trip back. Through selfless contribution of their time and energy, the JI volunteers have experienced the spirit of compassion and friendship, which has warmed the hearts of all.
