With great anticipation, the welcome party for 2015 University of Michigan- Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI) new graduate students was held on September 25. This year, the talented JI students presented a dynamic show chock full of upbeat music, cool dances and exciting games. Professor CP Chen, Associate Dean for Graduate Study and a number of faculty and staff joined the current graduate students to welcome the new students.
The party kicked off with a Cantonese song “Hesitate no more,” followed by a guitar trio of “The world out there” and a melancholic ballad “South of the Southern Mountain.” Then, the somber atmosphere was broken by an exotic Persian dance, a dazzling hip hop and a love-song medley. A hot dance “Love multiplied ∞” performed by 4 master-program beauties won great applauses and a chorus performance by F4, a group of four gorgeous male students, roused loud cheers.
Three thrilling games tested students’ quick response capabilities and team work. The enticing big prizes boosted the competitive atmosphere and caused a lot of side-splitting bloopers and bungles. Everyone had a good laugh.
Wonderful time flew by. A chorus “Follow Your Dreams” sung by all drew the curtain down for the memorable evening. The new graduate students are ready to set sails at JI.
