The International Student Association (ISA) of the University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter) officially inaugurated its new leadership team during a town hall meeting for international students held at the Long Bin Building on November 6.
In a formal flag-bearing ceremony, Krin Muangsiri, a junior from Thailand majoring in Mechanical Engineering, assumed the role of ISA president from outgoing president Kantaphat Leelakunwet, a senior majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
The ISA leadership team includes key members representing various nationalities and roles. Vice presidents Sofia Lai Velasquez Shum, a junior from Costa Rica, and Weijie Soo, a junior from Malaysia, will support the president alongside four ministers including Isa Kimura from the United States, Choo Lee Wen from Malaysia, junior Sophia Chua from the Philippines, and sophomore Aghamatlab Akbarzade from Azerbaijan, who will oversee treasury, planning, publication, and promotion, respectively. Additionally, first-year student Patricia Eileen from Indonesia will serve as the freshman representative in the organization.
The JI ISA is dedicated to promoting friendship and cultural exchange between Chinese and foreign students. It plays a pivotal role in cultivating a culturally rich and inclusive international campus while boosting the sense of belonging and identity among international students.
