The University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter) faculty member Aimin Tang has become a recipient of the inaugural MediaTek Advanced Research Center (MARC) Excellent Research Award. Tang received an Honorable Mention prize for for his project titled Key Technologies for Integrated Sensing and Communications, according to a recent announcement of MediaTek Inc., a leading global semiconductor enterprise. More than 60 projects from worldwide research institutes participated in the competition.

Integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) technique has been envisioned as a key technology for 6G networks, which gains great attention in both academia and industry in recent years. ISAC can provide both wireless communications and radar sensing for devices such as drones and vehicles, which is a key enabling technology for industries such as low-altitude economy and autonomous driving.

Personal Profile

Aimin Tang is an Assistant Research Professor of the UM-SJTU Joint Institute. He received his Ph.D. degree with an award of outstanding Ph.D. dissertation from SJTU in 2018, and a Best Paper Award of IEEE PIMRC in 2021. His current research interests include B5G/6G networks, integrated sensing and communications (ISAC), and coded caching.
