Symposium on smart connected systems held at JI
On May 24th, the Preparation Meeting and Symposium for the UM-SJTU Joint Research Center for Smart Connected Systems was held at JI Long Bin Building. Senior representatives from leading companies including CIMC, Freetech, Bosch, DFJ Dragon Fund China, GE Healthcare (China) Group, JMCG, Panasonic, and renowned scholars from the University of Michigan and Shanghai Jiao Tong University attended the meeting. The symposium was officiated by JI Professor Xudong Wang.
JI hosts preparation meeting for UM-SJTU joint research center
The University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute held the preparation meeting for the UM-SJTU Joint Research Center for Smart Connected Systems on May 24th. The invited guests from renowned universities and enterprises, including the University of Michigan, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, CIMC, Bosch, GE Healthcare, Freetech, DFJ Dragon Fund China, JMCG, gathered at the Long Bin Building for in-depth discussions to map out blueprint and pathway of the research center.
Innovation Center for China-U.S. Youth Exchange inaugurated at JI
On May 24th, Innovation Center for China-U.S. Youth Exchange was officially inaugurated at the UM-SJTU Joint Institute. The center was unveiled by Sean Stein, the Consul General of the U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai, and Weimin Che, the Deputy Director of Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange of China’s Ministry of Education, in a launching ceremony held at the newly-built Long Bin Building of the joint institute.
New UM-SJTU agreement commits continuous support to JI
Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the University of Michigan signed another 10-year partnership agreement, vowing to expand bilateral cooperation and continue support of the UM-SJTU Joint Institute.
JI puts new “student-centered”building into use
Long Bin Building, a brand new building housing the University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute, was officially put into use in a grand opening ceremony held on May 24.
JI sets to move to new building
The University of Michigan- Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute is set to operate in a brand new building. The JI offices will be officially operational at the new building from May 14.

JI team ranks second in Hult Prize Singapore Regional
A graduate student team from University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute grabbed a second prize in the recently-held Hult Prize Singapore Regional Competition attended by 48 teams from renowned universities worldwide.
JI research team reveals the photo gain mechanism of nanoscale photoconductors
Professor Yaping Dan’s research team at the UM-SJTU Joint Institute has published a research article in ACS Nano. The research team employed Photo Hall effect to investigate the charge carrier dynamics in a single silicon nanowire photoconductor. The results revealed the mechanism of extraordinarily high photo gain that is often observed in nanoscale photoconductors.
JI holds Dean renewal ceremony
JI renews Peisen Huang as its Dean in a renewal ceremony held on January 8 at the conference room of the institute. The reappointment decision was made effective from November 21, 2017, as announced by JI party secretary Xinwan Li on behalf of the Organization Department of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU).
