Four JI Professors Funded by Pujiang Talent Program
JI faculty members, Assistant Professors Huan Qi, Wenjie Wan, Jigang Wu, and Associate Professor Qiang Zhang, have been awarded research funding by the 2012 Shanghai Pujiang Talent Program, which was co-founded by the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality (STCSM) and Shanghai Human Resource Bureau to attract overseas talents to teach, do research, or start enterprises in Shanghai.

Among this year’s graduates, 81% are going abroad for graduate studies, half of which have been admitted to University of Michigan, and the majority of the rest were admitted to top US universities such as MIT, Stanford, Columbia, UCLA, Georgia Tech. Those who choose to work have mostly been employed by large domestic and international companies.

JI 2012 Summer Design Expo Rocks amidst Typhoon Haikui
JI’s Capstone Design is a senior project that is completely different from the traditional thesis-based senior project prevalent in the engineering schools in China. In JI, under the supervision of a team of instructors, a group of four or five senior students from Mechanical Engineering (ME) and Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) work together on one project. Students are required to write a group report as well as individual reports in English and finally present in the English oral defense.

The Graduation show of class 2008 was opened by a video titled “The Coolest Moments in Our College Days” which replayed some extraordinary and funny events in chronological order and invoked waves of laughter. The theme of the night was “Family Forever”.
MOE Specialist Group Visits JI
Associate Dean Peisen Huang welcomed MOE specialist group. He gave an introduction of the JI, including the history, characteristics, and management. He described the high-caliber faculty, innovative curriculum, successful dual-degree program, and the graduates’ excellent placement record. He summarized JI’s accomplishments in six years, the challenges, and future developments.The attending specialists were impressed by JI’s achievements and asked a lot of questions.
