To inform new students of JI’s education system, a Series of First Lessons was given at the JI Auditorium on September 15-16. Prof. Xinwan Li, JI’s Party Secretary and Associate Dean for Research, taught the first lesson, followed by faculty and staff members who instructed on academic affairs, international programs, laboratory safety, honor code, and library use.
Secretary Li advised the new students to adjust their mind sets, reset their past glory and pride to zero, and restart their life at JI. Using an egg as an example, he encouraged students to break though the shells and be reborn. He hoped every student can experience a different rebirth at JI.
From the detailed instructions of the faculty and staff, students became familiar with JI’s academic affairs, SAKAI system use, and the dual degree and international exchange programs. The laboratory safety rules were emphasized.
Honor Code is JI’s trade mark and a required course for the new students. Prof. Horst Hohberger, Chair of Honor Code Committee, gave a detailed lesson on Honor Code and expected students to abide by the rules of doing homework, examination, research, etc.
Knowledge is power. The new students are now armed with the key to JI’s treasure chest.
