To promote research collaboration among Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) faculty members, the CACES (Center for Advanced Computational Engineering and Science) Research Symposium was held at the University of Michigan- SJTU Joint Institute’s (UM-SJTU JI) multimedia classroom on September 10. As a part of the JI Graduate Seminar Series, the symposium was attended by more than 40 graduate students and eight of them presented their recent work. Professor Jinglai Li from the Institute of Natural Sciences, Professor Minhua Wen from the Center for High Performance Computing, Professor Weipeng Li from the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Professor Li Jiang from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering were invited to talk. From JI, Professor Xinwan Li, Associate Dean for Research, Professors David Hung, Hua Bao, Yongxing Shen, Lipo Wang, Hong Zhu, Weikang Qian, Yong Long, Mian Li, Yanfeng Shen and Jaehyung Ju participated.

Professor Xinwan Li gave a welcome address. On behalf of JI Office of Graduate Education, Professor David Hung strongly encouraged graduate students to improve themselves by joining the symposium. Afterwards, 14 professors and graduate students presented their current research progress followed by fruitful discussions. All faculty participants agreed that such symposiums should be held regularly to boost collaboration and graduate students’ performance.
